I am deciding to do a magazine articles based off a theme I got chosen for me and the theme that got chosen for me was horror. For this I am deciding to do a double sided magazine where I talk about horror books and add horror books I this article.
Direct mode of address (magazine cover)

When making magazine articles producers like to see meanings through signs and then they decide to select a particular colour,, image or even words.
When making their magazine articles they like to use particular codes and these particulars codes which they use when making their magazine article is written, symbolic and technical these codes are then interpreted by the audience who are reading their products.
The thing the audience loves to do especially when they're reading a magazine article is they love to interrupt text by making sense of the signs and even when decoding.
Another thing the audience love to do is analyse a media text which the audience are decoding and the signs that are seen in them.
Informal mode of address
I had to create a direct address magazine cover and on this direct address magazine cover I had to add the close up, crop and face forward as well as there is direct eye contact from the person who is on the magazine cover. What direct mode of address means is when models and celebrities often look directly out to the audience where they are even engaging seemingly in the direct eye contact with the reader reading it. They like to often draw the audiences attention in the magazine by making us persuaded by the form of text they use.

Indirect mode of address

I had to create a indirect mode of address magazine cover and on this cover I had to add no eye contact and mid shot, crop and side. What indirect mode of address means is it simply means how the text can speak to the audience and how it involves them. What it also means is it also refers to how a text influences the audience. They are also saying that the model or models have to look at directly address or even better the writing they use can speak to you.
Formal mode of address

I had to create a formal mode of address magazine article. What I added on this was the article contented that it was politics based. What formal mode of address means is where you will adopts a formal style when writing your magazine article, as well as, a more complex writing style.
For my final major project I will be doing a double paged magazine spread and I will be reviewing three books written by Stephen King.
The three books I will be choosing to review which were written by Stephen King are It, the shining and the stand.
The first book I will be choosing to review is the book It, what the book is about is it's all about seven children who are ultimately terrorised by a clown. When Stephen King wrote this book it was his twenty second book and only his seventeenth novel. The colours he used was red and the colour red symbolises blood and they also used white, the reason why they used white so they can make the clown stand out more and more.
The second book I will be choosing to review is the book the shining. What the book the shining is about is it puts you in the life of Jack Torrence, he is a struggling writer and a recovering alcoholic who then accepted a position as a one off season caretaker run the historic hotel which is located in the Colorado Rookies. The colours he used is red and white, the colour red symbolises blood and the colour white emphasises the kid on the front cover walking out.
The third and final book I will be choosing to review is the book the stand. What the book the stand is about is it is a post apocalyptic and it's a dark fantasy novel which is written by the one and only Stephen King. What the plot is getting centred about is about a pandemic which kills almost the entire world. The theme in which the book the stand is based about is the theme of peace and freedom which requires a huge sacrifice. When the whole of humanity was decimated b y this virus, two of the powers remained and them two powers are good and evil. The colour I see in the cover of this book is the colour red, the colour rede automatically shows to me that it symbolises blood, it can symbolise the colour of the blood of the zombies who are on the floor.
I had to create a informal mode of address magazine cover and on this cover I added that there was a famous person on the front, that it was directed at you and it's an article content. What informal mode of address means is where it can adopt an informal register, this can be used by using text which can then influence the women reading it. They like to use slang, colloquial vocabulary and personal pronouns to make their readers more engaged in their work, by doing this it can also make the target audience feel as if they are almost talking to them.
Main Cover line- The main cover line is where it is smaller than the masthead cover but it is pretty much larger than any other cover lines. They don't change the font colour because it is the same as any other cover lines, it is also written near where the masthead is. it has to be covering over the catching eye.
Main cover image- The main cover image is where it can take up a large proportion of the cover image, it also has also to catch the attention of the reader and it also has appeal to the reader.
Masthead- What a masthead is it is a one page informational overview of a publication and everyone that is involved in it's creation. It has a list of editorial staff, a publisher, a subscription, details and most importantly a contact information, where you would usually a masthead is in the front of a magazine or when you're reading journals.
Mode of Address- The mode of address is how the text in the magazine in which you're reading then speaks to the audience and how it then involves them.
Banner- The banner is the title of a magazine and it can also appear on a newsletter, a banner also contains the publication, serial information, date, volume and a number.
Strapline- What a strapline is in a magazine is
a subheading which you will usually find at the top of a magazine, an example of a strapline is "BLASS" this is where they used a bolder font to attract their readers and they used italics so they can give out a buzz and excitement so the readers can buy it.
Left justified cover lines- What a left justified cover line is in a magazine is where it is printed left and each line starts at the same distance from both the left of the page and the column.
Graphic- What a graphic is in a magazine is where it mainly focuses on the trends of each graphic design, but it doesn't deal with the mainstream magazines. It describes the alternatives and it then creates a creative phenomena, they can only use a graphic with it's characteristics in-depth approach to one specific theme per each issue
Bar code- What bar code is on a magazine is based on a international standard serial number, not only does it apply to magazines but it also applies on newspapers, and any other periodical publications that are out there.

Magazine double page spread (final major project):

When writing a magazine article there are two type of codes you got to remember. Them two codes you have to remember are written codes and visual codes. When using written codes in your magazine article there are nine to remember
1.) Headlines- How a magazine article uses a headline is they use it to capture the whole of the readers attention, they would like to have the caption as big and as bold as possible.
2.) captions- How a magazine uses captions is they like to see it as a opportunity to communicate with what has been said at the front of the article.
3.) use of language- How a magazine article use language to try and engage their audience is they like to use adjectives.
4.) emotional/ exaggerated language- How a magazine article uses emotional language is when they like to often persuade the reader who is reading their magazine by persuading them to their point of view. The reason exaggerated language is used in magazine articles is when they use "!" at the end of their statements.
5.) Verbs- 'Get, see and buy'
6.) Puns/ wordplay- The reason why magazines uses puns in their work is because it creates a form of word play, it also creates a sense of humor which you can see through words that have two or more possible meanings. The reason why magazines use wordplays in their work is because it is one of the most popular things magazines like to use.
7.) Scientific language- Why magazines like to use scientific language in their work is because it show's a sign communication when they try to be more precise and consistent.
8.) Slang/ colloquial language- The reason why magazine articles use slang in their work is to gain a bigger and better audience, they also tend to use slang in their work to gain a more teenage audience. The reason why magazine articles use colloquial language in their work is because the editor would like to target their audience and the only way editor can try and do that is if they use colloquial language. When they use this language it looks like it is more familiar but it is not friendly to the reader because it then can create a decision on whether the reader wants to buy the magazine or not.
9.) Rhyme- The reason why magazine articles use rhyme in their work is because it allows you to create a sound pattern and when you create a sound pattern it allows you predict the outcome.
When using visual codes there are 6 to remember, and those six are
1.) main image and proportion of the page which then ultimately the image takes up.
2.) You got to talk about what the main focus of the photograph
3.) You have to talk about the photography, if it is cropped or obviously edited
4.) You got to talk about the meaning of the images, and talk about how you decoded it
5.) You got to make sure the newspaper logo is rightly positioned
6.) You have to talk about the number of images on the front page and tap;k about what they are there for and their purpose.
Cover Terminology:

What I done here was I had to search up on the internet 'magazine front cover' once I searched that up and picked a favourite front cover, I had to then add the cover terminologies. Them cover terminologies I added were main cover line, main cover image, masthead, mode of address, banner, strapline, left justified cover line, graphic and bar codes.

What colours can you see on this front cover? The colours I see on the first magazine front cover is white, and on the second magazine front cover, the colours I can see are orange.
What gender do you think these colours are associated with? The colours that are associated with gender in the first one is white , whereas in the second one it is associated to both men and women.
What mood or impression do these colours create? The mood that these colours create is a sad mood because in the first one the colour they used is white and white usually associates with sadness, whereas for the second one, the color they used was orange and people like to associate the color orange with is excitement, enthusiasm and warmth.
Do you think the colours used tell you who the magazine is targeted at the audience. and why? Yes, I strongly believe the colours that the front of the magazine used is targeted at a audience.
Who is on the front cover? The person who is on the front of the magazine cover in the first example is Kanye West, and the person who is on the front of the magazine cover in the second one is Motley Crue. Why use her/ him? The reason why they used Kanye West in their first magazine cover is because he is a rapper and they want to get more youngsters into the rap game, the reason why they used Motley Crue in their second cover is because she's a makeup artist and again they want to get more and more young girls to buy their products. What does she/ he look like and why? What Kanye West looks like is a rapper, what Motley Crue looks like is a makeup artist.
Above is the double paged magazine cover for my final major project. As you can see I have added the image to the right hand side of the double paged magazine article on the left hand side I have added a heading, subheading and four text boxes. What I'm going to add for the image which is located on the right hand side is a image of the three books which are it, the shining and the stand. As for the four text boxes I have got which are located on the left hand side of the magazine I am going to write a bit about the author (Stephen King) and a bit more about his background, why he decided to become a writer, his inspiration, his date of birth, how many books/ novels. The second text box ill be going into more detail about the first book which I chose and that book was it, the third text box I will be going into more detail about the book the shining and the fourth and final text box I will talk about the final book which I chose which was the stand, the heading will be titled 'Stephen King' and the sub heading will be 'his three greatest books'. How I made this double paged magazine cover was on photoshop. The tools I used was the ruler tool, the rectangle tool and the text tool.
